Cooking isn’t just for grownups! These campers will have a fun-packed week of cooking and learning new things in the kitchen. Campers will create healthy snacks, plus have fun making aprons and their very own cookbook. The best part? Campers get to enjoy the snacks they make every day!

CHESS CAMP

When: June 25-29 and/or July 16-20

Chess Masters of DE has been teaching chess in schools since 2008. It was founded in Pope John Paul II School by Coach Gregory Rogers. Since then, the club has expanded to several schools in New Castle County and Pennsylvania. Everyone recognizes the benefits of teaching chess to children and adolescents, making Chess Masters of DE thrive. Coach Greg understands how chess can assist the youth to make good choices in and out of the classroom. His approach to teaching is always patience with dedication and commitment. Note: Campers may attend one or both weeks.

This camp will empower children with lifelong skills at home, out of the home, at school, and throughout their lives. Topics covered include making a positive first impression (eye contact, posture, handshakes, remembering names, confidence, grooming), table manners (correct use of utensils, interacting with servers, voice moderation, excusing oneself from the table, trying different foods), and digital diplomacy (writing appropriate emails, social media dos and don’ts). This camp’s culminating activity will be a dining experience where the children practice their skills.

This camp is designed to teach all those life skills that young children should know. Your child will learn how to sew a button, tell time on an analog clock, work with fractions in measurement, count change, tip at a restaurant, write and endorse a check, balance a checkbook, and more!

TIME TRAVELERS

When: July 2-6 (closed Wednesday)

With the help of time machines, we’ll spend the week jumping through time exploring history. We could start our morning mining for gold in 1849 California, then hop over to Ancient Egypt before lunch. From the days of the dinosaurs to 100 years in the future, there’s no limit to our travel possibilities. With our imaginations leading the way, who knows what we’ll discover?

UNDER THE SEA

Fish, Turtles, and Sharks — Oh, my! Does your child love the ocean? If so, this is the perfect camp! Campers will learn about all kinds of animals in the ocean and even create their own aquarium to bring home. Each day, they will read and sing about, create, and celebrate all things associated with the ocean. There’s no doubt that this camp will be a whale of a good time!

SAILING CAMP **SOLD OUT**

July 16-19 and July 23-26 (No Friday lessons)

Time: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Cost: $525

Learn to sail with U.S. Sailing-certified instructors in a safe environment. Campers will be provided transportation by van to North East River Yacht Club in North East, MD, for this unique experience. No previous sailing experience is required. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced sailor, you will build the skills to navigate a sailboat and advance to higher levels. Don’t forget to pack your lunch, since you will be out on the water. Sailors must attend both weeks. Day Camp is available for Fridays, if needed. Campers can be added to the Wait List through Online Registration.

BACKYARD SUMMER GAMES

Come for a week of fun in the sun at a relaxed pace, as you’re shown the ins and outs of whiffle ball, kickball, and other light outdoor sporting activities. Enjoy both friendly competition and camaraderie with your peers.

SHIVER ME TIMBERS!

Calling all explorers! Do you like adventure? Do you want to discover hidden treasure? Then let your imagination set sail during this fun-filled camp! Create your own ship to compete in a STEM challenge, explore which treasures sink and float, and follow a treasure map to discover hidden loot! You will sing songs, read stories, and complete crafts as you think like an explorer. Don't forget your swimsuit - you may be asked to walk the plank!

GLAMORIZE YOUR DOLL

When: August 6-10

Get set for some serious fashion fun! Glamorize Your Doll is designed for campers who have the desire to create trendy clothes and accessories for their very own 18” doll. Patient, kind, and skilled Handwork Studio counselors will teach machine and hand-sewing, embroidery, and other embellishing techniques to allow each camper to craft unique creations for his or her doll. Camp includes all materials, from sewing machines to fabric. Just bring your own doll* and imagination! Join the fun!
*Dolls are always welcome but please leave accessories at home.

FASHION & MACHINE SEWING CAMP

When: August 6-10 or August 13-17

Whether you are an aspiring fashion designer or a creative camper looking for new skills, immerse yourself in the wonderful world of machine sewing! Designed with older campers in mind, this program is all about choice and creative expression. Campers will be taught how to read and use a wide variety of Simplicity Creative Group patterns, as well as pick projects from our favorite book, “Sewing in a Straight Line,” by Brett Bara. In addition to a catalog of over 20 patterns, campers get to choose from dozens and dozens of tempting fabrics to bring style and flare to every creation. There are more than enough options to keep you coming back week after week and year after year. *New on-trend pattern selection added for 2018

At Handwork Day Camp, you’ll find campers sharing stories and laughs while working on a wide array of unique projects. Our goal is to teach useful skills such as hand-sewing, embroidery, knitting, weaving, needle-felting, and much more! Campers are always free to express themselves and are enveloped in creativity and fun. Whether refining skills or learning brand new ones, our camp is sure to delight. Join the fun!

GHOST HUNTING CAMP

Let’s get metaphysical! Ghost Hunting Camp will take campers to some of the (supposedly) most haunted places in Delaware. First, we will research the stories behind these spooky places. Once there, we will observe and record any signs of our friends from the “other side.” Back at Indy, we will review our results and publish our findings. We might not prove or disprove anything, but it will be a lot of fun!
